Young Apprenticeship

Partnership FAQ

Who funds the YA programme?
Specific funding is routed from the Department for Children, Schools and Families [DCSF] via the LSC to the partnership delivering the programme. For Cohort 6 LSCs are working closely with LEAs as by 2010 funding will go directly to the LEAs.

What funding is available for each student?
Current funding for Cohort 6 stands at £3000 per Young Apprentice on the Health and Social Care programme. Additional funding can be obtained. Check with your LSC for guidance.

When does the bid have to be submitted?

The bids generally need to be submitted in November/December. Full details are available from your LSC and in the key dates section of this website.

You can see an example bid here [example bid doc. TN to supply]

Who is in charge of the YA programme?

Skills for Health and Skills for Care have a custodial role over the YA programme. Skills for Health look after aspects relating to health. Skills for Care look after social care and early years on behalf of the Children’s Workforce Development Council.

Your Local LSC looks after the contractual side of the YA programme, for example when and how you will be funded. You can also get information from your LSC.

Will we have full commitment from schools?

When the lead partner draws up the bid it is important to establish full commitment from all stakeholders to guarantee a successful Young Apprenticeship delivery. A steering group should be established to ensure good communication and that all partners understand what their requirements are. It is good practice to draw up service level agreements. Partnerships have been successful where the avenues of communication are clear and consistent.

What additional qualifications can we offer?
QCA have a list of approved qualifications for pre 16 year olds. [Link to QCA]

Is additional funding available for trips and transport?
The funding per YA should cover trips and transport, however partnerships can make arrangements for additional funding. Contact your local LSC for guidance.
