Learn more about how to benefit from the success of the Young Apprenticeship programme.
Partnerships are formed by a lead partner bringing together those employers from the health, social care and early years sectors who are willing to provide real work experience for 14 -16 year olds, and schools, colleges or training providers. The lead partner submits a bid to Skills for Health and Skills for Care for approval and if successful this is then submitted to the LSC for allocation of funds.
In 2004, when the programme began there were only two partnerships offering Young Apprenticeships in Health and Social Care. By 2007, this had grown to 47 across England, representing 1,400 Young Apprentices.
How does it work?
The lead organisation, which can be the school, college or training provider, puts in a bid on behalf of a partnership. The bid is initially approved by Skills for Health and Skills for Care, the two Sector Skills Councils which are responsible for offering the Health, Social Care and Early Years YA. If the bid is approved, it will be funded via the LSC (Learning and Skills Council), subject to allocation of places for the year.
