Young Apprenticeship

Employer FAQ

Who funds a YA?
They are Government funded. Specific funding is routed from the Department for Children, Schools and Families via the Learning and Skills Council to the Partnership delivering the programme.

What does it cost?
As an employer, it will only cost you your time. The students will be on work experience and as they are not employees, you do not need to pay them.

What about risk assessments, health and safety, inductions?
The YA coordinator responsible for arranging the work placements will ensure that adequate risk assessments are carried out before and during each placement. These will include health and safety, conduct in the workplace and confidentiality. Many employers also get involved in the delivery or design to ensure the correct messages are give to the YAs.

Am I insured to offer work experience to young people under the age of 16?
You should be, but it’s important to check with your insurers. Employers’ liability insurance will almost always cover students on work experience.
