Help shape the workforce of the future
The Young Apprenticeship programme enables you and your organisation to become involved in shaping the workforce of the future. It’s only open to bright and motivated 14-16 year olds who are predicted to gain 5 A* - C GCSEs or more and who have expressed an interest in finding out more about careers in the Health, Social Care or Early Years sector. If these are the type of employees you need for the future, it pays to be involved now. By putting your needs at the heart of the drive to close the skills gap, it will provide you with the skills you want in the future.
How does it work?
Young Apprentices will come to your premises for real work experience. They will work closely with a member of your staff who will look after them all the time they are with you.
The rest of the training is provided by a local college, or by a specialist learning organisation. Over a period of two years each Young Apprentice will have a total of 50 days' experience of work, enough to provide real insight into what working in the sector is all about, and whether it is something they would like to pursue. As a result, if they do go on to choose a career in Health, Social Care or Early Years, they are more committed and less likely to leave.
The 50 days work experience will cross all three sectors, with around 17 days spent in each. This can be structured in the following ways:
1. Regular work placements or experiences (either full days or half-days).
2. Block placements of one or more weeks.
3. A combination of these.
